Personality: In the beginning, Ryunosuke lacks confidence in his skills and abilities. He’s characterized by a strong desire to meet expectations of those around him, most notably as Kazuma Asogi’s substitute following his “death”. Despite his inexperience, however, he takes to lawyering quickly and becomes quite a natural at it (especially since he only learned British Law in about 40 days at sea with Susato). He continues to show his natural skills by taking advantage of an archaic rule, the summation examination, to turn his trials around. He has a strong will and determination, and a few good friends who assist him on occasion, that have eared him multiple victories in court in a short amount of time.

Plenty of his identity through the series is tied to being Asogi’s substitute, this is show by the accessories he inherited from him (the arm band and the katana, Karuma). His mission is Kazuma’s mission, and he does everything he can to live by Kazuma’s legacy as a lawyer. One of the significant flaws that he displays is his own idolization or Asogi. He comments on the secret keeping and Kazuma’s temper, but it never really goes too deep as he continues to see Kazuma as this ideal person. Calm, cool, collected, levelheaded – all things that Ryunosuke tries to embody because of Kazuma.

Ryunosuke is also an intense person in both strength and weakness. In strength, he is a courageous young man, quick to chase down two armed robbers after Shlomes was shot. In weakness, he’s surprisingly violent in his own internal monologue, quickly jumping to shoving “evidence down [Gregson’s] throat” in a fit of frustration. This is also furthered by his willingness to cooperate with Asogi’s plan to forcibly recover Daley Vigial’s memories. He also displays a lack of awareness towards social issues and justice initially. He admits that he doesn’t read the news paper a few times, and he doesn’t consider that authority figures could be corrupt until after his own trial. He also doesn’t consider the difference between Gina’s immoral dealings with being a thief out of necessity and McGilded’s immoral dealings out of a place of privilege, placing the two actions on the same moral ground.

He is also a surprisingly theatrical person, quick to correct Shlomes’ deductions with enthusiasm during the “dance of deduction". His previous anxiety and stiffness gives way to dramatic confidence. (his sprite animations become more vivacious).
